Under the big tent :step 3

...what if I were a pelican

 egg lain beneath an orange moon

sinking maroon in the drowsy a drunken sea?

Would I invoke her deity to turn

all human beings into hairy beasts?

Return us to the times when we were kids

and all the same, the moon's offspring

stretched  back on wet rocks, nested on stilts

uplifted dreams.

this is beautiful in lieu of the recent horrible gulf coast disaster!

Yes, I agree with Pamela here...and it is written in such an ethereal way.

thank you Pam and Cynthia. It is about the dream of pelican egg about a time before the industrial revolution, polution and oil spills

A lovely dream - mythical and mystical - surely a provocative read.

Silhoettes and shadows. Beautiful.

i love that this asks us to think about what has happened in a way that is removed enough from the facts/happenings for it to resonate deeply and have broad appeal.

did that make any sense?

It's a wonderful dream, one I wish could be reality. The imagery and language is just right. I like the use of a crossed out phrase, too. Adds a level of perplexity.

Humanities separation from nature has been on my mind a lot lately. The images here are very magical.

apologies for my late reply, but I had a busy (though wonderful) weekend

@irene-thanks
@linda -much welcomed
@sue- i am glad you enjoyed.
@maekitso- as most dreams (are)
@carolee- makes perfect sense to me- the issue of industrial pollution is not only about the oil& gulf events. and beyond that - our inability to balance nature and culture
@deb- thanks. I hesitate between drowsy (sleepy, dreamy) and drunken (intoxicated as the pelicans are today)
@francis- a fascinating topic, so worthy of better poetry.
